Editor's review
CompuDiary allows storing the details of daily events, reminders, routine work items and file attachments. Complete search and export to excel, word or text is supported.
Pros: This application lets one enter various daily events, reminders, routine work items etc onto a calendar formatted page. This is a month at a glance format. It is possible to have a book format or a day a page type format. Most often these daily activities are routine or that it happens often. In such cases one can create templates and these templates could be dragged and dropped into the page of the calendar. The program comes with a set of templates. It is possible to create a set of templates of one’s own. These templates can be organized into several categories.
These categories are visible on the left of the user interaction page, much like the explorer file structure. Expansion and contraction of category folders and the items inside them work the same way as you’d expect in the explorer format. Reminders can be set up and the interface has the necessary controls to do that. These can be switched on and off as desired. While the entries made are open to any user of the machine on which it is located, it is possible to protect entries by password. Password management facilities are provided. Other settings allow some variations on the calendar organization including some abstract ones.
Cons: The one liner templates do not help much in capturing details about the events that one would like to come back and check the diary for. Feels like quite a bit of effort that is not very effective.
Overall the application does not seem to deliver much in terms of functionality though it is easy to use. This package rates 2 stars.
Particularly useful for recording HPC CPD activity
